Clemson Football Injury Update: August 15, 2024
Following Clemson’s second and final scrimmage of the preseason, head coach Dabo Swinney provided an update on the team’s injury status. The scrimmage, held on Thursday, was a crucial part of the Tigers’ preparation for the upcoming season.
Key Takeaways from the Scrimmage
Swinney was pleased to report that no new injuries occurred during the scrimmage. “The biggest thing is nobody got hurt,” Swinney said. “That’s the biggest positive. Because you don’t get tough in the season. You don’t just show up – you have to get ready to play football. So this is one of those days that you’ve got to cut it loose and go play, and you hope that everybody comes through it OK, and so we did. So, I’m happy about that. That was a huge positive. And even from overall, we’re in a pretty good spot from a health standpoint”
Players Out for the Season
Unfortunately, Clemson has three players who are out for the year due to injuries sustained earlier:
• Watson Young (Freshman Offensive Lineman): Torn ACL
• Myles Oliver (Redshirt Sophomore Cornerback): ACL and pectoral injury
• Ian Reed (Redshirt Freshman Offensive Lineman): Knee injury
Day-to-Day Injuries
Swinney also mentioned that several players are dealing with shorter-term injuries and are considered day-to-day:
• Jeadyn Lukus (Junior Cornerback): Close to returning and should be back any day .
• Shelton Lewis and Troy Stellato did not participate in the scrimmage •
Phil Mafah (Running Back), Barrett Carter(Linebacker), and Wade Woodaz (Linebacker) were held out to evaluate the backup positions.
Looking Ahead
Swinney remains optimistic about the team’s overall health and readiness for the season. “Other than that, we’ve got a few guys banged up, but nobody else that’s out for the year or anything like that, or for a long period of time,” he added.
“So, they’re all kind of day-to-day at this point”
.
As the Tigers gear up for their season opener against the Georgia Bulldogs on August 31, the focus will be on getting the injured players back to full strength and ensuring the team is ready to compete at the highest level.
Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses.
