Clemson Football 2021: Secondary “No Fly Zone”

The Clemson secondary has been getting a lot of flack since their loss in the college football playoffs. The fans have been relentless in their criticism, as if they really have a clue on what really happened and why. Yes, we all know social media is there for discussion and that’s fine. Nolan Turner missed the 1st half because of a targeting call in the game against Notre Dame. Brent Venables knew the hand he was dealt but someone forgot to tell Justin Fields.

Derion Kendrick announced that he was coming back for the 2021 season. Nolan Turner has already graduated, and he could have decided not to come back. The Tigers have tons of talent returning in the secondary. As a matter of fact, they return intact the entire secondary from 2020. Add to this mix 4-star safety Andrew Mukuba and 4-star cornerback Nathaniel Wiggins and there is going to be a serious battle in the spring. Andrew Booth, Mario Goodrich, Sheridan Jones, Lannden Zanders, Tyler Venables, Malcolm Green, Fred Davis and others got valuable reps this year. Each of these are a year older, a year stronger and hopefully a year smarter. Additionally, incoming 4-star LB Barrett Carter may get a shot at safety as well. He is a tackling machine and could slide in right behind Mike Jones, Jr.

Coaches Venables, Reed and Conn will take the OSU game, dissect it and start preparing for Georgia to open the 2021 season. Georgia returns starting quarterback JT Daniels and the majority of their wide receivers and a lot of their offense. The secondary will have their work cut out for them.

Derion Kendrick will probably start at one corner while Andrew Booth should start at the other. Both will get stiff competition from Malcolm Green, Sheridan Jones and Mario Goodrich. The Tigers are really “WETOODEEP” in the secondary. As a matter of fact, the Tigers return all 11 starters on the defense. This secondary is looking to redeem itself and preparations started the day after the loss in the college playoffs. Beware college football. I wounded Tiger is awfully dangerous.
