Clemson Announces 2023-24 Men’s Golf Schedule
CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson will compete in four tournaments for the first time as part of an 11-team tournament 2023-24 schedule, announced by Head Coach Jordan Byrd on Thursday. The Tigers will open the season in a first-time event in Knoxville, Tenn. at the Tennessee Intercollegiate from September 8-10.
In addition to the Tennessee Intercollegiate, other first-time tournaments for the Clemson program will be the Battle at Briar’s Creek in Charleston, S.C., the Goodwin Intercollegiate in San Francisco, Calif., and the Lewis Chitengwa Intercollegiate in Charlottesville, Va.
Clemson played at the University of Virginia’s Birdwood Course at the 1990 NCAA Regional, but it was not a regular season tournament hosted by the school. The tournament is named in honor former Virginia player Lewis Chiengwa.
Clemson will play four regular season team events in the fall, plus an individual tournament, the Sapphire Valley Invitational. In the spring, the Tigers will compete in seven team events (including the ACC tournament), plus an individual tournament – the Sharkey Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
The Battle at Briar’s Creek, the Pinehurst Invitational and the Chitengwa tournaments all will be two-day events with the competitors playing 36 holes the first day and 18 the second.
While Clemson will play in four tournaments for the first time, it will be just the second time the Tigers have played in The Blessings Invitational in Arkansas. Clemson finished fourth there last year in its debut.
While there will be some new events, there will also be some familiar trips for the Tigers. Clemson will play at the Golf Club of Georgia for the 16th time. It is a tournament Clemson won in the spring of 2006 and 2009.
Clemson will play in the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii for the second-straight year and the sixth time in history. The Tigers finished a season-best second place out of 20 teams last year and Andrew Swanson (Bluffton, S.C./May River) captured medalist honors in a school record 18-under-par 195.
Clemson will play at the Pinehurst Invitational for the third time on March 4-5. It is a tournament Clemson won two years ago. The event will be played at Pinehust #2, the site of the 2024 United States Open.
Byrd’s team will also play in the Goodwin Invitational at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, the site of the 2009 President’s Cup and the 2020 PGA Championship. It will be the program’s first-ever tournament in San Francisco.
Clemson will close out the regular season at the ACC Championship in Charlotte at Charlotte Country Club. It will mark the first time the league championship has been played in the Queen City.
The NCAA Regional sites will be Austin, Texas, Baton Rouge, La., Chapel Hill, N.C., Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., Stanford, Calif. and West Lafayette, Ind.
