Agostino Earns National, Conference Defensive Player of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and the ACC both announced on March 4th that senior midfielder Summer Agostino has been named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week and ACC Defensive Player of the week. This is the second straight week a Clemson Tiger has won both awards with senior goalie Emily Lamparter earning it last week.

Agostino earned the accolade after last week’s upset over then No.5/6 Syracuse, 9-8 after leading all players with five picked up ground balls while causing three Orange turnovers.

The senior midfielder has been a menace for opposing offenses all season. Agostino causing team-high 15 turnovers, the most caused turnovers in the ACC and top five in total and average nationally, along with 16 ground balls, the second-highest average in the ACC. The New York native is an integral part of one of toughest defenses in the ACC. The defensive unit is top 20 in the nation in terms of scoring defense. Additionally, the Tigers have the second-best corps in the ACC and are a top-15 unit in the nation when it comes to picking up ground balls.
