#4 Clemson Vs Wake Forest

NO. 4 CLEMSON (5-0, 2-0 ACC) at WAKE FOREST (3-2, 0-1 ACC)
SATURDAY, OCT. 6 3:30 PM ET
 BB&T FIELD (31,500)  WINSTON-SALEM, N.C

Winston Salem, NC

Clemson comes to Groves Stadium and BB&T Field on this Saturday looking for ACC win number 3 and win number 6 overall in 2018. After spending most of the first quarter trying to find its groove offensively. . .  the first 3 drives of the game were spent feeling out the Deacons defense and surmising how they planned to play the Tigers offense and its bevy of skilled talent.  It was around the midway point of the quarter with 6:25 left. . .  when Clemson running back  Travis Etienne burst off right tackle for a 59-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers up 7-0.  A series of punts were then exchanged between the two teams as the first quarter came to an end. Clemson held the Deacons to 28 yards on 24 plays over the 1st quarter and forced the deacons to punt on every possession of the quarter.   Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence was 9/11 passing for 41 yards in the first quarter. The Offense as a whole managed to amass 105 yards on 18 plays.

As the 2nd stanza began the Tigers took the ball and drove 69 yards on eight plays in 3:09, culminating with Etienne scoring from  3 yards out to make it 14-0 Clemson over Wake Forest. Clemson held Wake again and then managed a 2: 16-yard drive that ended with a Trevor Lawrence to Justyn Ross 55 yard touchdown pass. Clemson 21-Wake Forest 0 with 9:43 left in the half.  The Clemson defense

The Tigers defense held the Deacons in the 2nd quarter to 49 yards on 14 plays and zero points.  Half-time the Tigers had racked up 312 yards on the way to a 28-0 Halftime lead

Clemson came out in the second half and continued to pound the  Deacons with it’s run game.   Three Clemson running backs on the day exceeded 100 yards on this afternoon.  Each player producing touchdown runs longer than 60 yards. With freshman newcomer Lynn J Dixon breaking off two huge runs.

In the Second half the Tigers would add 5 more touchdowns with the Clemson run game doing most of the damage amassing 471 yards including touchdown runs in the 2nd half of 70, 64, and 65 yards from three separate running backs.  The Defense continued to stop the Deacons over and over forcing punts and turning the ball back over to the Tigers offense with regularity.

On this warm fall afternoon, it was another day where the Tigers reserves saw plenty of action in the second half.  All 72 players on the travel squad played for the second consecutive ACC road game as the Tigers demolished the Deacons 63-3 in a game that saw Clemson impose its will on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  The Deacons had no answers to the overwhelming disparity in talent present on the field this day in Winston Salem.  Clemson now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACC heads into the bye week and mid October in good shape for the run to the ACC Championship and a 4th consecutive appearance in the College Football Playoffs.
