Clemson Rolls on the Road to Open 2020 Season

No. 1/1 Clemson opened its 2020 college football season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and took down the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 37-13. The Clemson offense recorded 561 total yards and the Tiger defense held Wake Forest to 330 total yards. Clemson’s defense recorded six sacks against the Demon Deacons. 

Trevor Lawrence completed 22-of-28 passes for 351 yards and one touchdown. The junior also added on two rushing touchdowns. The top pass receiver on the night was Amari Rodgers who caught five passes for 90 yards. Branden Galloway also contributed big in the passing game, catching five passes for 60 yards.

Travis Etienne picked up where he left off last season, wracking up 106 yards on the ground. With a two yard rush touchdown in the third quarter, Etienne eclipsed 100 yards on the night, breaking Wayne Gallman’s school record of 17 games with 100+ rushing yards. Etienne also recorded three receptions for 47 receiving yards. 

True freshman Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy shored up the defensive front for the Tigers, each recording their first career sack in the first quarter. Bresee finished the game with one sack and Murphy finished his first college game with two sacks and seven total tackles. The seven tackles for Murphy led the team in his first ever collegiate game. Winston-Salem native KJ Henry also added a sack and four total tackles. 

Other players of note:

DeMarkus Bowman: six carries, 24 yards

Kobe Pace: six carries, 22 yards

DJ Uiagalelei: 2-for-3 16 yards, 

Joseph Ngata: three catches, 48 yards

Clemson will be back in action next weekend as they open the home schedule of 2020. The Tigers will host The Citadel inside of Death Valley next Saturday at 4:00 pm on ACC Network.
