Davidson Leads Clemson Past Boston College with 25 Points
Nick Davidson’s season-high 25 points fuels Clemson to a 24-point victory over Boston College
CLEMSON, S.C. – Nick Davidson (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mater Dei/Nevada) scored a season-high 25 points, including 21 consecutively in the first half of Clemson University men’s basketball’s 74-50 win over Boston College on Tuesday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.
During that stretch of the first half, Davidson outscored Boston College 21-9 over a 9:28 span. Clemson went from down 15-11 to up 32-24.
The Tigers (15-3, 5-0 ACC) relied on a barrage of three-point attempts and a coordinated defensive attack that would work to hold the Eagles to just 27 points in the opening stanza. Dillon Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) and Jestin Porter (Houston, Texas/Cypress Ridge/Middle Tennessee State) anchored the backcourt and combined for 14 points and two steals.
Hunter finished with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Forwards Davidson and Carter Welling (Draper, Utah/Corner Canyon/Utah Valley) commanded the paint. Welling finished with ten points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while the pair combined for 16 of the Tigers’ 28 points in the paint.
Clemson built a 10-point lead at the half and closed the period on a 21-11 run in the last 10 minutes after overcoming a four-point deficit with just over 12 minutes to begin the game to take a 37-27 lead heading into the break.
RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett/Georgia) recorded all ten of his points in the second half and helped Clemson extend its lead to a game-high of 25 points with 8:07 remaining before coasting to a final score of 74-50.
Clemson forced double-digit turnovers for the third consecutive game, this time with a season-high of 19, turning the Eagles’ mishaps into 24 points. Additionally, the Tigers converted eight 3-pointers and made 16 free throws while leading for 30:43 minutes. The Tigers outscored the Eagles’ bench 40-4.
Clemson returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 17 when it hosts Miami (Fla.) on Alumni Day. Tipoff is set for 2:15 p.m. on The CW.
